The Affordable Care Act became law more than 11 years ago.

That landmark legislation made health insurance affordable for millions of Americans.

Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, in West Virginia the rate of uninsured adults (ages 18 to 64) declined from 29 percent to 9 percent.

But we can't stop there. The pandemic has reminded us how critical universal affordable health insurance coverage and quality healthcare are to our state and nation.

We have an urgent health crisis in the United States—and we must expand upon the
progress made more than a decade ago when President Obama signed the ACA into law.

Please take a minute or two to ask Senators Manchin and Capito to support legislation to:

  • Permanently expand the Obamacare health subsidies for middle class families in the American Rescue Plan which expire next year;
  • Lower prescription drug prices by allowing Medicare to negotiate directly with drug companies;
  • Expand Medicaid home- and community-based services for elders as well as adults and children with disabilities who need long term support services and care;
  • Improve Supplemental Security Income so people with disabilities are no longer forced to live below the poverty line.
