ELIMINATING THE PERSONAL INCOME TAX (PIT)

Good afternoon! As we enter the final week of the West Virginia 2021 legislative session we at West Virginians for Affordable Health Care have a big ask. We need everyone who can to please contact Senators by phone or email concerning eliminating the Personal Income Tax (PIT) (about half the revenue from our state’s state $3.8 billion budget). This would require increase in taxes elsewhere and/or cuts to programs. What West Virginia does not need is the highest sales tax in the nation, nor cuts to our Medicaid program that so many West Virginians rely on (not to mention all the other potential state services that could suffer). Even if you have done so previously, and it may seem like an uphill battle, since there is no agreement at this time between the House and Senate version (not to mention the Governor’s!), it may end up being addressed in an extended or in a special session so this may be a crucial time to make the legislature aware of our strong opposition.

In particular, the Senators listed need contacted before Tuesday’s likely vote. Please call and/or email!
