The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act: Summary of Key Health Provisions The CARES Act, signed into law on March 27, contains a number of health-related provisions focused on the coronavirus outbreak in the United States, including paid sick leave, insurance coverage of coronavirus testing, nutrition assistance, and other programs and efforts. It also includes support for the global response. A new issue brief from KFF summarizes the key provisions of the bill. (Issue Brief)
To ‘Keep The Lights On,’ Doctors And Hospitals Ask For Advance Medicare Payments The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced in late March that it would implement for the first time a national accelerated Medicare payments program to help ease the financial strain for health providers. The federal help has inspired private insurers such as UnitedHealth Group and several Blue Cross Blue Shield plans to offer advanced payments and other financial support. (KHN, USA Today)

Millennial Zeitgeist: Attitudes About COVID-19 Shift As Cases Among Young Adults Rise Young adults are coming to terms with a new reality, driven in part by statistics that show they are not safe from the coronavirus. News reports, such as that of a 25-year-old dying from COVID-19 or the announcement by Texas public health officials that 44 college students tested positive for the illness after returning from a group spring break trip to Mexico, drove home the point that they, too, were at risk.
